Focus on God Rather than Circumstances

 


Once I had the experience of the Holy Spirit dwelling within me, I began to receive sudden revelations. The revelations I receive are God's gentle and loving words highlighting something in my life, such as behaviors, thoughts, understanding, etc., that needs attention or change. When God speaks to me, I am filled with joy, knowing I am safe and loved. Most of the time, the problem is that once I acknowledge what I need to change, I feel an extreme urge to share the revelation with those I love to fix them.

 
Sharing and discussing what you learn with family is excellent, but it is not so great when you share solely to fix others to improve your life. It isn't easy to stand in the shadows when you know someone you love is not spiritually in the right place, and their behaviors painfully affect you. I often contemplate fixing family members who cause me so much pain rather than focusing on bettering myself. Instead, I should focus on myself and how I respond to others with a pure motive of reflecting the character of Christ.


God quickly told me it wasn't my place to fix someone else or to judge their spiritual wellness. The only thing I am commanded to do is love them with the same love He has for me and with the same patience and understanding he graciously gives me.   Some people make it hard to love them when their words, actions, and manipulation of others are for their gain or purpose without regard to the wellness of the family or individual members. During these times, it's essential to look to God and remain focused on his purpose rather than the pain. The apostle Paul suffered immensely in the name of our Lord and Savior and is an excellent example of drawing from God's divine strengths to persevere in times of suffering. In Philippians 4:11-13, Paul writes,


11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 For I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
